Meta now charges for AI on WhatsApp: Business Agent by the token, and what you pay with another assistant
Since August 1, 2026 Meta bills messages from its own Meta Business Agent by the token: US$2.00 per million, with about 20,000 to 25,000 tokens per message, so roughly US$0.04 to US$0.05 per reply. If you use another AI assistant, each reply is a service message billed at the country's utility rate (US$0.0034 in the US, US$0.0085 in Mexico), plus whatever your AI provider charges.

How much does a Meta Business Agent reply cost?
Meta charges US$2.00 per million tokens since August 1, 2026, counting the customer's message and the reply. A message typically uses 20,000 to 25,000 tokens, so each reply costs roughly US$0.04 to US$0.05. The 72-hour free entry window does not waive this charge.
What if I use another AI assistant on WhatsApp?
Replies from a third-party AI assistant are service messages: since October 1, 2026 Meta bills them at the country's utility rate, US$0.0034 in the US or US$0.0085 in Mexico. Separately, your AI provider may charge for AI usage.
What is Meta's AI Providers policy?
It's a separate charge for companies offering general-purpose AI assistants on WhatsApp. It applies in Brazil since March 11, 2026. Meta states it does not change what it charges other businesses, such as a store using AI to serve its own customers.
